Images, Files, and Attachments

Postby NeutronRocks » Mon Aug 06, 2012 4:52 pm

It is no longer possible to upload images/attachments directly to the forum. Any attached images have been lost in the process of disabling attachments.

In order to include images or files in posts, use the [img] and/or [url] tags. The Voxel Box recommends the following sites for hosting images/files:

http://imgur.com/
https://www.dropbox.com/

Sorry for any inconvenience that may have been caused. Keep on forum-ing!

Attachments were disabled because the same computer that hosts the game server hosts this website (thevoxelbox.com). Having attachments wasn't so much a storage issue (although that could become an eventual issue) as it was a bandwidth issue. A 2MB image that gets sent 100-300+ times uses a lot of bandwidth that should be going towards the game server.

TL;DR - The game server and this website run off the same computer and internet connection. Having attachments eats up a lot of bandwidth that should be going towards the game server.

Thank you for the explanation! :)

You may upload things to the wiki as long as they are VB-relevant and will be used on the wiki. I'm pretty sure it's a huge pain in the ass anyway to use external images on the wiki with any kind of formatting...

Do not upload things to the wiki with the sole intention of putting them on the forum.
