So I heard we want partner Status...

Postby Burgerkrieg » Wed Oct 19, 2011 12:14 pm

Reading through the forums (and also knowing that it is like that) I saw, that our dear admin Ridgedog is looking for the partner status on Youtube. Well, that's quite a hard goal to accomplish, since all the other "big" channels playing Minecraft got partners with other games. But actually: Why not? Why not become the first only Minecraft-related (and not official) channel on YouTube? AS you may know, I'm kinda obsessed with YouTube since I quit watching TV due to incredibly low quality of the vast majority of the shows on air. Over the last few years I could watch a few channels go the partner way, and others die. So, what can we do to achieve partnership? I have a few suggestions:

The problem is, that YT is only like a "cool addition" to TVB, and not a central part of it. I'm not talking about THE central part, that should always be fun, awesomeness and building, but we need the channel to become more important. many of the partners put up like one video a week, but those are shot irl, with scripts, complex editing and stuff like that. We are more of like a gaming channel, which means we can theoretically put up more videos a week. Notice, nearly all the people who make let's plays put up at least one video a day (the german LPer that goes by the name of Gronkh even uploads 3-5 a day), which is totally not a mark we need to reach, four videos a week should do it perfectly for that.
I know what you are thinking, you're thinking "Burger, u mad bro? We also want to PLAY the game and not do such work all day!". That's totally a great point, therefore I would like to remind you, dearest admins who work hard to keep this thing going, that you have a great community just waiting to take over parts of the work. You should actually change your position from "We are the only ones who keep this going and work our asses of all day" to "We supervise the community projects so we actually have time to play", anyways. Nobody wants this server to die due to all of you suffering from a burnout syndrome. So keep it calm, don't always think about the server and make projects opener to the rest of the community, this will help you find some air to breathe (unless you're a workaholic, though). You do enough for us.
So what kind of "shows" can we offer the people? Well, There are loads of answers to this question, so let's just make a list:

- Timelapses, especially the big ones. Every time FyreUK does one, they instantly land on the front page of r/minecraft. But we also shouldn't loose the eye for smaller builds (It's not just organic that you can film, it's basically everything!)

- Touring videos. I actually worked out a format myself, which works similar to the one starbursts does, just with longer, more detailed tours and letting the watchers decide where to go next (And yes I know, I'm talking about this since two months and not doing anything, but my new router is finally here and so will be the fast internet, soon). Touring in general is awesome here, since the Voxelverse is full of awesome stuff to discover. Actually Well_starburtst, why don't we have a sit down and talk about doing this together? I mean, we could do more videos and not have two shows for the same purpose.

-Tutorials. Mexxy, your tutorials are awesome, but there is so much to show when it comes to good building. We should do more tutorials to take our wisdom out to the world, so we will never see any wooden boxes when we troll... erm visit survival servers.

-probably some kind of let's play, like the Yogscast does (I know some of you don't like 'em, but I think we can do as good as them). We would need the two or more most charismatic and funny players we can bring up and make them go through great adventures. Just an idea...

-VoxelParcour. Parcour and spirnt videos all around The Voxel Box (build Tracks, people!), Idea by Gazz.

- More Ideas, we need more ideas.

Here's something that should always remain most important: We should do this because we like to do it, not because we must. If you don't like your job, you tend to do it bad. This applies to every task. Admins, if you need a bit of free space, ask the community to help you. We are "in the same team", if you want so.

VB parkour. Everybody loves parkour :>

Also its not really that hard to get a partnership status on yt. I got offered one for one of my videos and it only had around 800 views and 15 likes. So it shouldn't be much harder for a channel as large as TVB to get one.

Partner status is indeed a good idea. Just look at how much publicity FyreUK has gotten, and they're basically a spinoff of the Voxel Box. I'm amazed that nothing from TVB has found it's way onto Minecraft Monday's yet. I would say yes to YouTube partnership.

I've actually been planning a series call Minecraft Architect for a while now, to teach people all the ins & outs of building in Minecraft. I just haven't started recording yet - that's the next step. Just gotta find the time to do it. XD

As for the partner status, we should go for it! It would give us both publicity as well as an income to help run the server. An all around good deal. :D

I literally can not wait for this series! I love series like that.

On topic:
I think you are overestimating the Partner status, I've seen people with way worse vids get partner. I just think we should somehow get some more views. Maybe working together with other big yters like Sparklez?
Also, I am a huge fan of the idea of more VoxelTours, more tutorials (GET WORKING MEXXY  ) and more timelapses (GET WORKING MEXXY  ).

I would actually love to make a jump course somewhere on the map, but infused with that VB touch of awesome.

There was this idea not too long ago to have parcour courses in New Voxel (or, when it gets rolling, Mechanicsburg), so as to generate a more authentic feel. I'm sure the same is possible in a variety of Pangean cities though.

2 things.
1. We could gain so much publicity if we say asked the yogscast to do dstc or other big youtubers.
2. There is an awesome parkour course in chocobo :P

Just a note on that, videos that are longer than five minutes don't really hold the audiences attention. The Triana tour was short, and it turned out great in my opinion. Just remember that the average viewer is like three and has the attention span of a chipmunk.

Lol. You're right, normal YT-Videos need to have a maximal duration of 5 minutes for optimum Viewing, but as we see in every let's play, longer videos also get loads of views. When I first proposed this on the MC-Forums people complained the videos could be to short to cover everything. Let's put it like this: If you like our towns and cities and want to see the VoxelVerse, you will watch the videos, even if they take 2 hours.

5 mins is good if you want a short tour, 15-20 mins is good for a longer vid. Any longer then that would even lose my attention if it was made by all my favorite youtubers together.

Though when we talk about tutorials, they need a lot of details. Starburst makes very short vids which teach me alot in his "Building with Starburst" series, yet I think a detialed 15-20+ minutes tutorial can teach you alot more, in alot more detail. Just break it up in two or three parts of 10 mins each.

I think that all the videos and play-lists should be sorted out, with consistent naming and all that cool stuff.
