Is this to standard?

Does my build look fat in this?

Is this to standard?

Postby Leizazure » Tue Mar 20, 2012 3:52 am

I had recently applied , although I had been declined , now I know about the rough standard of The Voxel Box. I would like to question whether this build is good enough for a greylist and if it isn't , I would like to know as well how to improve this build.

Uhm, in my opinion it is too boring,
you should try doing something to the roof.

Might some contrasting color in the house do?, the balcony looks empty IMO add chairs and tables out there or pot plants? And maybe have the house's foundation be of a much darker block :D

Its genereally fine, just needs some patterning here and there. I think greylist is achievable like that.
I make music. I also will design a simple 2D logo for you Voxel Company if you ask me nicely!

i'm just curious, what exactly is this building? its rather..irregular(?) idk..."different" for a house someone would live in.

Just to be clear, this isn't critique, i'm just curious.

also to be even clearer, i'm not saying different is bad, i like different, cubes are boring, just don't know if its something specific, or just a house.

TBH, I like the floorplan of the house, and I would live in such an odd style, BECAUSE it is different.
Like many have suggested, more colouring would be appreciated, but don't change too much as to get rid of what you already have.
Another thing most people don't think about is to use various glasses. Yes, it is possible to use glass panes in corners and curves, and yes, it's a good idea to use both of them together in different patterns. It'll add more depth and sutle detail to your build.

Good luck getting GLed :)

I have started working on the exterior again , the ones I got done was to add more colours to the basement level and to make the roof less boring , so I added windows and torches to the roofs and I recently added flowers and a small couch to the balcony as well.

Also , I have used both panes and blocks for my windows on the basement level. As there's a lot of space in the building and I don't have much ideas on what to do with the space , I shall do interior last.

It's an improvement, but I still think you can add more detail!!! Add some more contrast between your roof and the building itself, or at least a seem as to separate them a bit.
Again, detail, detail, DETAIL!!!!

That is what I meant, but wood does contrast with the rest of your build (so reconsider you choice of material there). In general, what I meant is just add more contrast between your roof and the rest of your building as to make it so it doesn't over-blend in with your build. This can also mean, extending the roof over a bit so that it actually DOES look separated (think in real life...the roof slightly over hangs the walls, and isn't usually completely flush with it).

Okay , I finished the seaming and finished the glass panes/blocks and added a wooden slab (Wood contrasts well like you said.) top for the windows , what else should I do or is it pretty much complete and I can start working on the interior?

The roof does get somewhat dark during night so I had to place torches at the seams while working.

I rather like this one than the last one- although that last one is ok-ish. The only thing that makes it looks bad is the placement of the torches on the front staircase, the empty space around it, and the topmost roof: make it more 3d by adding ?trellis? (edit: ups you have done this in the last one). The color is fine as it is, not all buildings need contrast. And the shape is nice, I want to have a house like that.
